Flat file database disadvantages

The virtual memory management feature allows your pc to compensate for physical memory shortages temporarily by transferring the data from RAM to disk storage. When a program is executing they are sent to a certain page frame and the rest are held in secondary storage. Pages that are needed in secondary storage will be copied to page frames. This is called the fetch-decode-execute cycle. To execute the program and instructions the reverse process is followed. Identify drive that will be used for data or log files.

The optical drive is a cheap one as its only needed for the installation of the Operating System and programs the user will be using.

Thus SQL was born. SQL Advantages and Disadvantages: 2. In a relational database management system the data access is privileged which means that the database administrator has the authority of giving access of data to some particular users which makes the data secure. Easy to use: This type of database uses tables which is better and easy to create and use.

Microprocessor picks up data from one of the registers for doing arithmetic or logical operation. Once the operation is over, it stores the result in a register. Data are usually loaded from memory to register. Similarly the resultant data will be loaded from registers to memory. They have the fastest data access speed, and include RAM and cache memory.

They can be both internal and external to the computer, and they include the hard disk, compact disk drive and USB storage device. Optical storage: Optical storage is the storage wherein data is read and written via use of laser. Featuring a complete file or directory that is composed of a file name, size, date modified, owner, group, and mode or attributes. All this work has been done with the help of Database management systems. Sales: To store customer information, production information and invoice details.

The greatest disadvantage of this system is the splitting of authority among the committee members. When authority is split up, no one in particular can be held responsible for the outcome of the committee. Before deciding to send children to their neighborhood schools, parents should be aware of the disadvantages of public schools. Problems with data integrity is another disadvantage of using a file-based system. It refers to the maintenance and assurance that the data in a database are correct and consistent.

Data redundancy and inconsistency. Difficulty in accessing data. Data isolation — multiple files and formats. Integrity problems. Greater data integrity and independence from applications programs. Improved data access to users through use of host and query languages. Improved data security. Reduced data entry, storage, and retrieval costs. Databases accessed on a network share are useful for access by many people who are looking for information. Flat file databases are not usually accessed like this since they belong with offline entities and form the machinery of operating systems and local devices.

Also, there are no transactions in a flat file database, so it is limited in what it can actually do as a database entity. So a flat file database is disadvantageous to a network user, who is accessing a multi-access, multitasking relational online database which can be viewed from many different aspects. Flat file database files are not encountered as "databases," but more as configuration files and the machinery which drives UNIX and Linux.

Also, these files are part of the file construct of more than one type of mobile application. These files are incredibly useful and the concept can be used in all areas of software applications and in the maintenance of complex small devices such as mobile computers. Even websites are built with these files. These are not the areas of disadvantage. However, there are applications which rely on different constructs and demand different interaction.

These kinds of application are better served with a relational approach to file-storage.
